Installing EPEL on Centos 7

If you are migrating from another Linux distribution, you may disappointed to find some of the software is not available through yum, making installations harder, due to dependencies, and conflicts.

Happily, the software may be available on EPEL, and gaining access to the repository, is as easy as a single command.

EPEL, stands for Extra Packages for Enterprise Linux. A repository of software available for Enterprise Linux, including Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Fedora, CentOS, Scientific Linux, and Oracle Linux. The project is maintained by Fedora Project.

Installing EPEL

  • sudo yum install epel-release

Once the package is installed, yum will also search through EPEL, in addition to the base distribution.
